Our first veggies

We've decided to plant sweet peas, lettuce and swiss chard since according to the great folks at Berkeley Horticultural Nursery and my on call gardening expert (aka, my wonderful dad!) they will do well this time of year in our Berkeley climate.

After destroying the last bit of the dead tree stump that was in the bed, we've put up a bit of concrete reinformcement wire for the sweet peas to grow on added some compost to try to revive the soil and in go the sweet pea seeds from my parents and the seedlings I purchased.

So here is what we've planted:
  • Sweet Peas (inedible, but they will smell wonderful when they bloom!)

  • Mixed Lettuce--"All Star" variety

  • Romaine Lettuce, mixed red and green varieties

  • "Golden Sunrise"Swiss Chard (bright yellow/orange stemmed variety with a mellower flavor)
